About
SpeakOut is an innovative not-for-profit organisation that equips young people to overcome disadvantage and change their world through creativity and enterprise.
Why SpeakOut?
Frustrated by disempowering and ineffective social welfare models, SpeakOut was established to address issues of disadvantage among young people in creative, enterprising, holistic and innovative ways.
These issues can include (but are not limited to) abuse and trauma, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, welfare dependency, social disconnection, poor mental health, and learning difficulties.
SpeakOut positions and values young people as cultural creators and positive change agents rather than passive consumers and recipients.
Outcomes - the value of SpeakOut
Current
SpeakOut creates ongoing opportunities for more than 2,000 young people to shift from their existing circumstances to pathways of employment, training, skills development, social and cultural engagement, enterprise development, active citizenry, health and well-being.
We work in more than 24 distinct communities throughout Queensland, with a diverse range of government, community, private and corporate partners.
Recent
SpeakOut has worked with approximately 5,000 young people and their communities in the past 3 years.
These young people are now designers, facilitators, performers, teachers, animators, film-makers, university students, TAFE students, business owners, and community leaders.
